What?   Delhi Flogger's Meet – Single Edition.
When?
Sunday, 19th Feb'2006, 4.30 5 pm Onwards.
Where? Jantar Mantar, near CP
(we can later walk to any of the eateries nearby)
Why?    read on….

Last Sunday I attended my yet another blogger’s meet, which also celebrated the Second anniversary of Blogger Meets in Delhi. This meet gave me an opportunity to meet a very few old, and a lot many new and refreshing blogger souls. Interestingly one of the bloggers, Abhishek who spoke passionately about blogging as a marketing media, also noted that all those who attended the meet were single, and got away with cleverly marketing his single status :p
Mayank, who was among the new bloggers that I met during the meet has covered the meet in his own style.
Others who attended were Nikhil, Yogesh, Twilight Fairy, Sanjay, Rusty, Amit Gupta, Snigdha, Kreeti, Asheeth, Sanjukta and Swagat.

Now blogging has always been good to me, it has helped me discover my writing skills (or the lack of it), it has made me write poetry – a sin that I had never committed before, and most importantly it has helped me build my biggest asset – my friends. So I thought why not host a blogger’s meet, I have done that before and I have always enjoyed it.

Even as I was thinking of it, some disturbing thoughts came back to haunt me – of how in not so distant past, our small blogging community was mindlessly made to be divided on the name of 'Delhi Bloggers Meet'. Two so called blogger ’groups’ who could not host their own meets, without an ill feeling towards another group, and all the drama that followed.

I have been part of one group from a long time now, and have attended most of the meets they have convened. Also I am tele/mail-friends with originator of the other group, and I have always failed to understand why there was so much resistance for allowing two of these groups to co-exist peacefully.

Enough number of bytes have traveled the world wide web in the form of mails/blog posts/comments etc on this issue, and I’ve been an occasional contributor to them – initially trying to broker peace and finally giving in by venting all my anger towards the mindless debate. It also saw a lot of veterans and initiators of one group getting frustrated by the turn of events and disassociating themselves from any of blogger groups. I guess they saw that the intent with which they started or became part of the group was not being served.

So what I am trying to say is now when I am thinking of hosting a blogger meet, I am a little scared of this meet being branded of belonging to a particular group. And the fact remains that I am member of one of these groups, (thankfully the other group does not have any concept of membership). So how do I do it without offending any of the groups? Coz I really don’t want to be the reason of another stupid debate because of the meet that I am planning to host.

I don’t want it to be of this group or of that group. I want it to be a meeting of pure simple bloggers. Period.

But how do I do it? MixedBag offered me a solution.

I have decided to call it Delhi Flogger’s Meet. It’s happening on Sunday 19th February, 4.30 5 pm onwards. The exact venue is yet to be decided, but mostly it will be somewhere in CP,  The Venue is Jantar Mantar, near CP as this place is centrally located and easily accessible by road and Metro. Keep looking for more precise details. As a friend informs:

"jantar mantar would have space to sit and discuss or whatever. its not as big as one might imagine but kinda neat and affords decent photo-ops with people around, as well. and the best part's that it has a few interesting eateries within a walking distance. "

It’ll be an one time event and not an ongoing one. If any Delhi Flogger’s Meet takes place after this one, it should not be associated with me (unless I choose to get myself associated with it at that time).

It’s fashionable to have an agenda for meet’s to give them some air of sincerity, so the agenda for this meet will be – (a) How beneficial is it to post erotic pictures on your blog to draw traffic? (b) Yumnum strategy – how to be an undercover blogger? (c) How to find a boy/girl friend through your blog?

HELL NO. There is no agenda folks. Just join us, be yourself and feel free to talk about whatever you can. Whether you are a serious blogger (like shivam), an elite blogger (no offence dude, but you came to my mind :p), a celebrity blogger (compulsive confessor), phunny blogger (nikhil), occasional blogger (harneet), outta city blogger (Diya, Saket), Woman Blogger (Priya), Journo Blogger (Monica, Jabberwock) or a crap blogger (like ME :D) you are all welcome to join in and share the fun that we are gonna have.

Nikhil, I hope you don’t have a copyright on this name (Floggers Meet), and if you do puhleeeez sue me, for it might help me become the next Gaurav Sabnis of Indian blogosphere, and I might even get a mention on DesiPundit, I might end up getting more traffic on my blog, and it might prompt indibloggers to start “the most controversial yet worthless blog of the year award” just to recognize me :D

Or on a nicer, sober and realistic note, Nikhil please allow me to borrow steal this name from your blog post. I very sincerely want bloggeres of all kinds to come and attend the meet. Lets get over the groupism and celebrate the Joy and Pride of being a Blogger.

Please spread the word. Hope to see you there.

  3. Amit Says:

Amit, you have set up Jantar Mantar as the venue to meet & then attendees can just go to one of the eateries nearby. but what about late comers? if I do happen to be late again this time(I damn well hope not), then I’ll have to go back again without meeting ya guys!! so why not just set up a place which won’t be changed?

  4. Amit Gupta1 Says:

  6. Monica J Says:

Im just wondering if 4:30 pm on Sunday would offer a good enough photo opportunity considering how poor the light gets at this time of the year.

Call me nosy or whatever: but since Im new to “blogosphere” or maybe Im just lazy to go through your archives to read more about the opposing and warring factions that you mention here, I still dont see the issue with hosting/being teh MC of an “official” bloggers meet. Naming it floggers or whatever else would achieve … whate exactly?

  7. AmitKen Says:

    Monica,

Well i am no expert on photography, and in any case the motto is to meet up with fellow bloggers, photography is just another thing ppl can do if they want to.

about the war-history, believe me it’s not worth it searching for it. By disassociating this meet with any group what-so-ever, and at the same time extending invitation to all, the attempt is to bury that stupid and mindless past. and the name – I agree it doesn’t matter. It just an attempt to laugh off the controversy that once arose over the ‘name’.

Hope to see you there. :o)

  8. Monica J Says:

Well I’ll get my @$$ there no matter what! dont know if i can contribute to the topic being discussed but from the look of things, I can nag u about the history until u come clean and with all details , the jucier the better.

    Just kidding.

  9. Monica J Says:

Can you add this to the following topic list:
How safe is to publish ones phone number on a blog and then be spammed by everyone except the credit card/loans division of banks:)))

    JUST KIDDING.

Thank God theres at least one number that I got , else would have wondered who to contact… btw: which amit is this?

How about the MC publishing his number? Maybe sending it to the group in case someone wants directions( i know I will cause I know nothing about CP)

  10. ID Says:

Hey did not know abt these 2 DBMs happening, accidentally bumped into this place from the DT story. Must say Delhi blog scene has graduated in last 3 years. But as i understand these meets still serve as another reason to HangOut and to let out the silent farts. Cool you people got some publicity, even i wud like to attend one, next time i am in Delhi. if there is a foto expected in DT following it.

  11. Twilight Fairy Says:

Amit, this is a great effort to get the “groups” together :) (yes, honestly).

But IMHO, if one goes on consistently raking up the dead past it will never get buried. Mentioning it here, in the first place is as good/bad as raking it up. As for calling it a “blogger’s meet” or any other name, I am sure that all mature individuals (or in-duh-viduals or “members” if you please :P) in either of the “groups” would attend either of the “meets”, provided they are mature to begin with and can let bygones be bygones. No one needs to assign “special” names so as to appear less controversial etc just for the sake of those in-duh-viduals who cant understand this! If I could, I would have attended meets of the “other group” too, except no one really knows when they happen and one gets to know about them, after reading the accounts i.e. when they are over and done with.

I am sure there are ppl who dont even know of the “groups” per se, but highlighting another meet with that kind of an introduction will only further spread the bad vibes. This is what I think personally. Of course feel free to disagree, dont take it personally, yada yada yada. :D

On a lighter note, you wanna get sued nah? I have ample reasons to do so because of the word “flogger”. See . :D

  12. Twilight Fairy Says:

uh? where did my comment disappear?

  13. amitken Says:

    Monica
u r gonna nag me? God help you then … all the best :D

and well I am no MC (or anything even close to that), i am just another blogger who has taken up this really easy task of hosting a blogger’s meet. and thats about it. the number above is mine, btw.

    ID,

I am not sure which DT story are you talking about? anyways, I/we do not seek any kind of media publicity (specially unsolicited). All we want to have is some good time with fellow bloggers :o) you are welcome to join too (and and let out some loud farts for a change) :p

    thanks for commenting.

    Twilight Fairy,

On ur appreciation – Thank You :)

On the history part – Agreeeeed.

On the Flogger’s Name: This name is totally worthless and holds no importance, and that is the reason it is there – to mock at the importance which was being attached to the ‘name’ :p

    Cool it!

  14. Amit Says:

    AmitKen:
Thanks for the number buddy, that’ll surely help!! :)

    Monica:

    which amit is this?

who? me or that “amit gupta1″?

    ID:

Hey did not know abt these 2 DBMs happening, accidentally bumped into this place from the DT story.

you mean Delhi Times? If yes, then I don’t think that this is the meet that was referred to by that elusive Mr.Yumnam, that was the other meet, I’ve attended one of those!! :)

  15. Monica J Says:

Im getting really confused about the number of amits in this group:) anyhow, I did a bit of dirty work myself and found quite a few juicy details about the two dbm’s etc but I think thats all that I will do at this point and dont worry: i wont nag u about that or anything else for that matter :)

and for God sakes: could u pls direct me to the entry in the delhi times write up? the only one I found is the one which “flogged” (quite appropriate, and no pun intended) the meet and all bloggers in delhi

  16. Twilight Fairy Says:

Amit (Ken), flogger = foto blogger = blogger who blogs on fotolog.net (examples are me, sanzen, netahoy, harneet, websanjeev, chris sordid to name a few). Anyhow I was also joking re! Looks like you got serious :).
And the importance was never with the name nah!! both the “so called groups” used “delhi bloggers meet” only.. so whats with the mocking and the cooling? :P

Amit (gupta 1 or 2 I dont know, please keep some nicknames now :p), DT did publish a something about “this group” quite some time back, before the “ranjan yumnyum” whatever days, or was it HT City? Anyway at that point of time, it was good press and there was a picture in the paper too (of those who were ok with it) complete with their URL’s and their fav blogs and all …

  17. alice Says:

hey it shd be an ongoing thing…its my b’day on 19th….i wd have loved to come..but…i have few other plans… :(

  18. AmitKen Says:

    monica

i hope i’ve given u leads to find enuf masala :o)

    TF

    :o)

    alice
Oh! cool… so u should atleast come and have cake with us for some time, or if u really cant make it ‘arrange it’ for us, we’ll miss u and wish u ‘appy budday’ :o)

  19. The Unrest Cure Says:

I’d like to clarify that the term flogger, when used instead of blogger has nothing to do foto logging.

Amit: Things shall be chaotic only for a short while. I won’t be able to stay long. O-)

  20. amitken Says:

    The Unrest Cure

thas bad news.. i wanted it to be super chaotic – and i was counting on you.

now i’ll hv to take that additional responsibility :p
